The source bibliography, the gap register and the role index behind the first body of research — free to copy, republish, adapt and build on, commercially included, as long as you say where it came from.

What is in here

The bibliography — 200 sources

Every source this research used. Each carries the grade it earns, the date it was published, the date it was read, a locator or a stated reason there is none, the figure it supports, and what it cannot tell you. Browse it.

The gap register — 154 entries

Every question the research could not answer at the grade it requires, by role and by chapter, with the reason. 22 are marked closeable, meaning a published source exists and nobody has compiled it. Those are the cheap ones. Browse it.

The role index — 452 job titles

Every job title the research found advertised in computing, mapped to the career that covers it, the chapter it sits in, and whether that work is growing, stable, contracting or being absorbed. If you are holding a job advertisement and cannot tell what the title means, this is the file that answers it. Browse it.

Read the dictionary first

Three columns in the bibliography are empty on a good many rows, and read cold that looks like a job half done. It is not: whether a source carries a link is a function of its grade. The rows with no link and no reason are all grade 4 and 5 — the aggregators and vendor claims the research argues with rather than rests on, several of which are not documents at all.

DICTIONARY.md sets that out column by column, with the coverage of each one broken down per grade. Every figure in it is computed by the build from the files in this directory, so it cannot drift away from what you actually downloaded.
